There has been so much unfolding in my corner of this fine Anvil, and in the online spaces beyond, so allow me to take a moment to share my delight with you, celebrate some big wins, and ensure everyone is feeling just as FERAL as I am!
The Most Pressing Update: COPPER IS ACHIEVED!
How about that, y'all? Your local owl has achieved copper on day two of Summer Camp, and I'm nowhere close to being done with these submissions — though the ideas I've put on the table are already super exciting for me! I'm making this update before slinking off to bed after a long day of writing sprints, article submissions, and other side quests, so you can expect my Summer Camp overview article to be updated with my submissions later! Tackling the Iron Gorge — Summer Camp Live!
Members of my Twitch community convinced me (yes, it was totally THEIR sole decision, not mine, obviously) to shoot for a new challenge this year: the fabled Iron Gorge. 21 days of streaming Summer Camp content during the event. Can I do it? I guess we'll find out!

Summer Camp is almost here! Sort of. How is everyone? Summer Camp homework shaping up? Prep looks like it's coming along nicely. So, have you figured out how you're going to tackle summer camp? That's important, too! Not just maps, or what world, but the 'how'. Will you take it at an even pace? Or savagely attack each prompt, sparing none of them? Somewhere in between works , too! At least for me, pacing for Summer Camp means a lot. For me? I tend to go "Chill". Take my time. Quality over quantity as the saying goes. But it's an important personal choice!

This is one of the most personal pieces I’ve ever written.
Inspired by my experience living with PCOS, The Hollowing explores a silent, incurable affliction through a fantasy lens — one that reshapes bodies, futures, and identities.
It weaves together storytelling, worldbuilding, and illustration to give voice to what often goes unseen.
I’ve been working on this quietly for some time. The art took several attempts before it finally felt like it was saying what I needed it to.
This also became an exercise in writing more deeply for one of the characters in the novel I’m working on — grounding their experience in something real.

How's April coming? Projects coming along? I hope great! Did you try out the unofficial Adventure April challenge? I also heard there is an unofficial Map challenge, too! Not too late to give either a try. But! May is around the corner, and that means there's another unofficial challenge on the horizon!
There you go, and this one would be a good one to practice those editing and polishing skills. I know I've a ton of worldbuilding that I look back on and think... "Well, I could have done better with that" or "You know? I left something out." Still, there's always staying heads down on your own worldbuilding, too for writing or gaming campaigns and on. The Owlworks makes its Youtube (re)debut!
It only took an age and a half, but the winds of creation finally found themselves beneath my wings! Behold, my first vlog!
I took a years-long Youtube hiatus, and now we're BACK — starting with a new writer vlog series where I take you through month-by-month adventures in the Owlworks! This episode 0.5 kicks off the series with a 2025/winter recap and covers the end of March... with most of April being through at this point (oh my god??), you likely already know where the next episode will pick up!

This is really an interesting challenge. A tradition focused on renewal, rebirth, or rejuvenation. That covers a lot of territory, doesn't it? Each of those impacts a culture in so many ways. Shapes the language, and in turn the people. One of those deep cornerstones of a culture that most might not think about how important they really are!

Many of you got to witness my live reactions to this information, but... six nominations??? I've done nothing but lay spiritually on the floor (maybe physically as well, for a little while) and process this!

How is March treating you? Good? I hope you're making progress on your projects! Oh, tried out any unofficial challenges? Which one? As for me, I'm just moving forward on my own projects, but I'm keeping an eye on any challenges coming in April and on. Besides, Summer Camp is on the horizon!
This time I found myself reading a lot o Natural Law worldbuilding. That's fun stuff. The backbone of settings, how they connect and interact. Could be laws of magic, where superpowers originated from, but it could be something deeper that connects cultures. I think that's why I like reading them, you never know what you'll find!

Owlworks Update: Malkora & Ayun Sovos take on WAWA!
Is that a voting widget I see? That can only mean one thing... WAWA is in full swing! I'm equal parts thrilled and terrified, but I pushed through the anxiety and uncertainty to bring you my proudest works of the past year or so, for your consideration this Awards season!
Whether my submissions win your vote or not, I appreciate you popping by and giving them a read, and learning more about my worlds, why I picked my submissions, and what I'm looking forward to most in my worldbuilding these days! Plus, some mushy feelings about the community support you've shown me in the past. I'm just a creature with so many feelings.

WorldEmber Update: Week Three Hype!
Much progress was made during today's Sunday Sprints stream — and the other streams of the weekend! Thank you, friends, for coming along for the ride!
Catrao - The tropical home of our newest friend, Arelio!
- Brasara Caverns - A cave network in Catrao, housing some treat-loving khiroph populations. I think this is my favorite of the day!
I also worked on a few articles connected to our dear Ebi!
Nahuara - Ebi's homeland! They've got a unique craft they share with the world, and it's a neat little detail :)
Iverra - Ebi's destination! At least, the first on her Path to Adventure! I'm very pleased with the additions to this article today.
Oh! And both Gidren and Brynna have new art in their articles!

Currently, we have 7 amazing entries with a wide variety of interpretations to the prompt! I have even found a few worlds that I've taken an interest in, sometimes the amazing authors on WA go unnoticed. But, wow there really are a phenomenal amount of creative minds here!

#NovelEmber Progress and #WorldEmber Prep
I've been a bit quieter than usual this November, because I have been working on #NovelEmber, but as we're just over halfway through the month I thought I'd do a little update.
WorldEmber Prep
I've really been enjoying the WorldEmber prep. It's that strange thing where I find myself getting inspired but also trying to save up all of my ideas to start writing them in December. (It's one of the reasons I haven't written my latest entry for #TheLongestJourney yet). Really can't wait to start!NovelEmber
I've written almost 30k words for my new book which is set in The Wilds (see World Block below). I know a lot of those words are going to change when it comes to re-reading and editing and so on, but it feels good to get the words out and to start connecting to these new characters I haven't met before!

Slight Intentional Delay
Well, after a conversation with someone who has much more patience than me, we are going to hold off on my Unofficial Challenge until after Novelember. Plus we have Tyrdal's short challenge going on! Highly recommend taking a look and maybe participating!
We are going to hold off on mine until December, I really want folks to participate in it and I want to give everyone a good shot at its competition. So that being said, now that I have a little more time, I'm redoing the badge for it. I like it a lot, but it needs some reworking. All right, so how is Spooktober coming? Making progress? Or have you nailed down all the prompts? Spooktober is fun but a hard challenge on its own. A little something special
Well, I had an instant idea for something. The Predator Prompt for Spooktober held a certain something for me. Well, how about I just go ahead and drop the first chapter for one of the Novellas I'm working on. SO, I'm pleased to present this teaser into The Great Tree Origins: The EndSong!

SPOOKY SEASON IS HERE
Well, I ran through the list for spooktober, and saw one that caught my eye right away. OH BOY, have I decided the vast majority of these are going to be about The Shadows. Now, as of right now, The Shadows have only been talked about in all of about 3 articles. I haven't really gotten around to them, though I have an enormous amount of canon about them, just unpublished.
Either way, whether anyone knows it or not, the Shadows are not... pleasant. Nor do I actually want anyone, including my own characters, to learn all that much about them. The only ones that do, are here in the world, but being here is rather a vague term, isn't it? Those that are gone, but not lost. Here, but also not.
So, why not get started in my usual way. Let us throw it in the deep end.
Also, I like to point this out every once in a while. Almost all the images in every article I have written/writing, have extra lore or commentary. You just need to click them. ;P

Sometimes you just gotta write an idea out
Did I intend to make such a long article? No. Did I feel like writing a short story? Yeah. BUT! I also wanted to try and start building up one of the four main Religions of The Great Tree. In this I wanted to try and get across that the whole point of this religion is all about love and compassion. Despite (while this is kinda only know to me as of right now) it's much darker point of origin. Despite all that, the faith remains strong with what it's core focus is. Love is an odd thing isn't it? It doesn't necessarily mean that its a physical relationship or even one of emotional attachment. There is beauty in all things, so why can't empathy be a form of love? Or even just goodwill in general.
The Sorority is the embodiment of this ideology, despite many of their practitioners... questionable... attitudes. Either way, I am happy to present the first step in fleshing out this Faith with the Head of the Church!

Hey, Everybody! Here we go with Issue 201!
Ah here we go with September! Ready for fall? It sure seemed like this year ( and this summer ) has flown by! If anyone invents a time travel machine, sign me up! But still, how are you projects going? Summer Camp and Summer Camp reading go well? I thought this Summer Camp was a fun rush. Even if you didn't make the goal you set, just remember, each bit of worldbuilding you wrote is one more than you had before! Progress!
Now to look ahead. Make the to do lists and charge on. Projects don't write themselves! Also, don't forget that Spooktober is right around the corner. That is a fun, relaxing challenge to stretch the imagination. What will your September hold for you?

What I'm Reading! Issue 200
Hey, Everybody! Here we go with Issue 200!
How's the reading challenge coming along? Almost done? There's a lot to read! I know I'm still reading through the prompts myself!
But this time, I'm keeping this short and sweet. But based on a a suggestion from Hallucigenia, the theme of this is pairs, twins, and things that are second or come in twos. To my surprise, this was tough to track down, but I did find some interesting worldbuilding here!

Hard-Fought Diamond
I can't overstate how proud I am of myself for keeping up with my diamond goal this year! It was a tough month, full of setbacks, illnesses, and hectic schedules. Low energy all around, and a shortage of time... it's a wonder I was able to do as much as I did! I have the community to thank for that, I think. Whether it's the regulars who join me in my writing streams, or the lovely beans who live in the SummerCamp channel on the Discord server, all of the encouraging voices sure kept me feeling like I could make it through, no matter what tried to hold me back! In the end, I achieved less than I originally set out to do, but I didn't spare a lick of stress over that fact. I earned the badge I yearned for, and it came to me in a place of joy and fun! What more could I ask for? It's just a shame that most of my article editing will have to wait until after the awards ceremony.New World Love
This was my first year running through a major event with more than one world at my disposal! My ability to jump between realms to find the perfect fit for each prompt added a whole new element of fun that I never got to experience before! I can't wait to turn many of the new articles that spawned during Summer Camp into fleshed out concepts and ideas to bring some proper life to Ayun Sovos! New art is coming soon for my bright new world! Plus, a new installment of the Path to Adventure prose series that I kicked off the world with! What I'm Reading! Issue 199
Hey, Everybody! Here we go with Issue 199!
So, the big question, how's the Reading Challenge coming? There is a ton of entries. How did you approach it? Was it by picking one prompt? A few? I've seen reading challenge lists that seem to tackle this in all sorts of ways. Some pick a few at random prompts in a row to dig into, while others moved in order though the prompts to read. No matter how you go after it, there is no way to lose. There is just so much to read that is downright fun!
I tend to pick two prompts from each wave, then read through those lists. When I'm done, I do it again, picking two more prompts from each wave. Still that leaves me so much to read!
Speaking of which, it looks like next time will be the 200th issue of "What I'm Reading". How about that? Never thought I'd reach 200! So, given that, I thought I'd ask... what would YOU be interested in hearing about? If no one has any suggestions, I'll do what I normally do. Let me know in the comments!

Welcome to August! How did Summer Camp end for you? Now it's time to kick back, rest and read. Because it's the Summer Camp Reading Challenge! There's a saying that to write (or worldbuild) you've got to read. It's true! Hemmingway once called imagination a 'well', and sometimes you have to refill it. Reading is one way, if not the best way, to do that!
I've also tried to catch up on my reading after Summer Camp. So, without further delay!

Gold Achieved! Summer Camp's Complete!
Phew! I set out to join my first #SummerCamp with 8 prompts completed and instead rallied for 24 completed articles! This having been my first writing "assignment" in years, I really enjoyed having quick, specific goals available to achieve. It has really changed the way I will be approaching a lot of my creative endeavors moving forward, which is definitely the biggest victory from this month.
I'm quite proud of what I've put together in these articles. I touched on various subjects I wouldn't normally hit on my own, and it has brought the land of Dendralis so much more to life! The fact that I created imagery for nearly all of these articles (some cover images were used for multiple articles), only adds to the quality of this output. I also dabbled in some minor formatting for the first time that I think really helped with the longer 'wall of text' articles.
With that said, I'll include a few of my favorite articles below, along with my hub page that lists every article written for summer camp. Best of luck to everyone finishing up! I'm going to take some time off before Saturday's stream and the launch of the Reading Challenge.

What I'm Reading! Issue 195
Hey, Everybody! Here we go with Issue 195!
Happy mid-ish July! How's your Summer Camp going? Made it to your goals of Copper, Silver or Diamond? Devoured the prompts? ( looking at you Camp Feral ) No matter your goal, I hope you're having fun with each piece you write. At least for me, that's te best part, getting into the flow and the world. Drawing out that unique vision, with all the special twists and turns.
This time, I'll keep this short. I've got a fun selection from the prompts. Have to admit, I spent way too long the "Myth of Food". I just LOVED that one! But myths are just too much fun to create anyway.

And We Have GOLD
Well being that this was the stated goal for SC, I feel like this is pretty satisfying! But, I also want to see what the week of decay has in store for us all! SO IM THINKING ILL GO FOR DIAMOND WHILE IM AT IT.
That being said, I've been working on quite a few things, I finished on of the most detailed pieces of artwork I have ever personally done, if you'd like to see that one you can find it on the Instagram page (it's...uh... a little NSFW, so it's not getting posted here) To which in terms of practice and progressing as an artist, wow. SummerCamp Update from the Owlworks!

What's been going on?
Since the start of Summer Camp, and all the way to even now, I've been fighting with some back-to-back illnesses and infections which haven't decided to show any sign of letting up (until now! fingers crossed). Nothing overly serious, mind you, so have no fear — but definitely enough to stall my progress, and shove aside any desire to sit down and get work done. As much as I wanted to bring my absolute feral best to the table, my feral presence was definitely being beaten back pretty hard by how sick I've been lately. I'm so grateful that I was able to spend some time with the community over on Twitch smashing some prompts, and really letting that feral energy take over what's been, thus far, a tough Summer Camp for me to get rolling. We went from one prompt submitted to 10 in just one stream! I made the jump from feeling down about my progress, not knowing if I'd manage to reach my goal this year, to being proud of the words I've put together, and optimistic about my prospective journey to diamond.What's next?
Well, we're pushing for those badges, of course! All of the love and support from friends in the community has helped me maintain the chill mindset, and I'm happy to be pushing forward despite the obstacles set before me with excitement in my heart, rather than stress. We had an amazing Feral Friday this week, reading some stellar submissions from SC wave 1 — and I'll be hunting for more submissions from wave 2 to feature this Friday, so reach out if you've got a favorite you want to be featured on stream this week! No plague is going to stop me from being feral! It won't stop me from achieving diamond! And it won't stop me from sharing my Summer Camp love and hype with the community! On My way to Silver Celebrating a milestone for myself!
Well, I don't really know what to say? A little over a year ago I started actually engaging with the community to a larger degree, I had thought that only a few people would be interested in seeing anything I put out. But, I didn't think that I would get 50 followers at some point! To some that may seem like a small fish in a big pond, but it's a big deal to me! Now if only I could get this kind of engagement in the other circles I'm trying to establish lol
Nonetheless, I thank you all for your interest in my strange little world :P even more so that a few of you exceptionally diligent followers and your dogged task of keeping up with all the oddities I make!
So, only a few days into the new wave of prompts and looking back at the whole camp, so far I surprised myself with writing nearly 20k something words for the 13 articles out now for the region of Huron! Seriously I think I need to keep these shorter, wow I get going when I have an idea in my head.
THAT BEING SAID! Here ya go!
The main story hasn't been forgotten about, it's still being plugged away in the background! I'm thinking I'll just write the bridging chapters and release the rest of it in one go, I keep picking at the chapters in tandem too much. So when that happens *cough* seven chapters are going to be released at once, finishing Arc ONE!

Did I spend a straight 7hrs on this? yep.
"A character that goes through a great change"
My my my, have I been meaning to finish this character for months now! By and large she is going to function as one of the MC's for the Great Tree. Along with Ilgor of the Skullbrood Clan, she is going to end up playing a massive role in the story as it continues.
I am pleased to present this wallflower turned War heroine!
